Live piano performances and an elegant, classical style set this restaurant apart from standard Chinese eateries. There is a vast array of options on the a la carte menu, with some stand-out seafood and regional dishes. Yum cha is offered daily and the steady stream of steaming dumplings and suckling pig is enough to tempt anyone to have just one more.

Night at Golden Dragon Palace
I went there last night with some of my girlfriends and we had great food and pleasant piano playing. The food was fresh and was cooked very delicately. The bubbly was good too.
The service was astounding as the people were all very kind hearted, caring and very happy it seemed as they smiled all the time. The waiters were dressed well and their image of themselves was brilliant and represented the restaurant magnificently. The girl at the front desk was very well mannered as she thanked us and said good bye and good night when we left.
Overall it was a very good and a fun night with my girls at Golden Dragon Palace.

One of the Finest Chinese Restaurants in Melbourne
In my time here in Melbourne, which is about 3 weeks, I have been to about 12 Chinese restaurants. Although most of them have been astounding but the one that sticks in my mind the most is Golden Dragon Palace.
When I went there the first time the people at the front desk greeted me with a pleasant welcome and politely asked me if I had a booking or how many are here to have the meal. Although I had to wait a few minutes I could see that their top priority was me and my friends, the customers.
While walking to the table I was amazed at the monstrous wooden buddha near the door, the ginormous, delicate vases that were safely in their rightful positions and the tremendous glass pictures of ancient China. I had not sat down yet but I was absolutely amazed by the restaurant already.
When ordering the food there was a wide range of Chinese delicacy and the waiter was very friendly. There was also a huge range of wine and beverages and was drank in a beautiful glass made wine glass.
I would highly recommend to all as this restaurant is truly the finest Chinese restaurant I have been to in Melbourne.

The other disappointed
I went there last Thursday. Atmosphere is OK, but food and service really disappointing. Most of our dishes weren't hot enough.

Good yum cha
The best looking chinese restaurant by far. The wine list was extensive on the Australian and NZ side. Service was attentive but not over-the-top which we like.

Disappointing customer service
I've always liked yum cha in Golden Dragon Palace but it's a pity that me and my family and some of my friends would not go back again.
We had very rude waiter and knowing that he has already upset a customer (my dad), not only he did not apologise, but he had a poor attitude! This is really disappointing!
Given that food there is more pricy than other restaurants, the last thing I would expect from them is poor customer service!
My family is really unhappy about this!

Best Chinese restaurant in Melbourne?
You have to hand it to Golden Dragon Palace. A Chinese restaurant that continues to do the traditional dishes extremely well but introduces an element of pleasant surprise to the busy Chinese dining scene. I'm guessing there has been a recent change in the kitchen because the food now is better than it was before.
Given its decor and its excellent service, I was quite surprised to find it in the 'burbs. Nevertheless, its not a Flower Drum but why would you go to Flower Drum when you have excellent food and service like this at one fifth the cost? If I lived near the Palace, I wouldn't be wasting my time looking around for another Chinese restaurant option.
Highly recommended.
Side note: I would have to disagree with the previous reviewer. The leather chairs are a luxury item. Extremely comfortable and unexpected in a Chinese restaurant, nevertheless, it is one of the reasons I would come back to the Palace.

Yum cha
This was the first time I'd been here, and it was quite nice. Adequate to good yum cha, good selection, rapid and cheerful service. There was a slight feeling that they were rushing to get the 11am sitting finished so the 1pm could start, because the dishes were arriving pretty quickly, but with yum cha you don't really want to sit around and think about how much you're eating, otherwise your stomach has time to start sending full signals to your brain and you stop feeling hungry.
To be honest, my only real problem was with the leather seats. These were very dramatic looking, and quite comfy, but I just don't like sitting on leather seats. Given that was all I found fault with, it was pretty good.
