From the moment you enter the doorway you are immediately transported via the sounds and scents of the busy kitchen to a world far away from the retail outlets and tiled floors outside. The decor is simple yet elegant, with crisp, white tablecloths; slim, black chairs; and provincial Chinese paintings adorning the walls.
There is plenty of staff on hand, ensuring water, menus and orders are delivered within moments of your being seated. The menu is a traditional affair, with all the expected items present, but it's the specials that really capture the imagination. Dishes include Shandong chicken (fried, deboned chicken pieces served on a sweet and sour bed of pickled Chinese vegetables, with slight echoes of chilli and spice) and seafood san choy bow, with its bountiful haul of scallops, prawns and plump fish pieces lightly seasoned and served within crisp leaves of young lettuce.
