When you hear the term 'diner' you might normally think of a black-and-white tiled room dotted with booths, circa 1950. The long formica counter running the length of the room would be manned by a busty waitress, while her quick-witted buddy flips burgers over a hot grill.
However, while this venture may be a diner by title, don't count on being able to tuck into oversized Americana burgers and shakes. That's just not enough of a challenge for Glebe Point Diner's manager Andrew John, who's formerly of such top-class venues as Icebergs and Rockpool.
What you will find on the menu here is a selection of rustic meals that could possibly inspire a new classification of their own; 'contemporary diner' is one that springs to mind. Chef Alex Kearns - one-time sous chef at Sean's Panaroma - stamps his signature style on each of the creations to come out of the kitchen. The dishes are rustic, hearty, refined and accessible, and they're as easily enjoyed by a gastronomically well-versed adult as by the little tykes they bring with them.

Gourmet Traveller Feature Review - "Two blokes with an impressive pedigree open a Glebe diner that's a bastion of simple and honest regional cooking."
Gourmet Travller 2009 Australian Restaurant Guide - "The message is subtle but consistent: eat local and profit. There's Krug and premier-cru Chablis on the list, but it's the state's wines (and beers!) that are highlighted by the layout and the smart staff."

superb
I finally got to dine here this week, and was extremely impressed. Great wine list, delicious roast chicken, and delectable chocolate pudding. Perfect comfort food in a perfectly designed local diner. Even if you don't live near Glebe, this is well worth making a trip to.

Best service I have experienced in a long time!
Although we had heard about GPD, we hadn't planned on visiting this day, after arriving at a different restaurant to begin with and recieving dreadful service, we decided to move on to Glebe, and we were so happy we did. From the moment we arrived the service was top notch. The menu is small, but would suit most tastes, and we really enjoyed the fish and pork dishes. Make sure you book an outdoor seat, they are lovely and very comfy. Overall it was a very nice afternoon, and I highly recommend it.

Good but not great
GPD is good but not great. The menu is a little worn and dull but tasty nonetheless. Service is hit and miss but one of the guys there is so smarmy he makes my skin crawl!!

Fantastic - great for special occassions
I took a friend, who is very keen on her food, and we had an incredible evening. The service was faultless; smooth, unintrusive, friendly and knowledgeable. The wine list is extensive and the decor fantastic. It did get noisy and a bit hard to hear, but we had such a lovely time. We had mains - fish and lamb, both which were not enormous but just delicious. We had wine by the glass, a dessert wine and then shared the cheese platter for dessert. All in all it was $70 a head - so pricy for our budgets and one that we will keep for special occasions, but COMPLETELY worth it! Would go there again in a heartbeat.

Fussy 2
Four of us all had different meals and everyone was very complimentary. The waiter was great, very helpful without being intrusive - dropped forks were replaced immediately, the menu was explained patiently and the food arrived promptly. The home made sangria was great too. We'll be back!

Big prices small offerings
We went expecting lots of good things. The online review said - 'The dishes are rustic, hearty, refined and accessible'. The space was interesting & impressive but so was the noise level. Starters were promising but the zucchini flower batter was too heavy. The mains just didn't cut the mustard for us - the homemade pasta was indifferent and too few prawns but lots of peas! The beef dish just a pile of chewy beef really with some token watercress. Definitely NOT hearty.
Then there was the non-label sparkling water cunningly 'decanted' into a carafe at $5 - they brought a second without us asking!
