Just when you thought it was safe to go back to your favourite pub, the yuppie bar phenomenon hits the city. To some, that would be bad news. To the influx of new locals in Adelaide's thriving townhouse virus - the Gilbert Street Hotel is just the tonic... with a slice of lemon please. The dining room has had a delicious lick of scarlet paint, with soft and warm lighting to encourage close discussions with your dining companion. The menu is rustic and tasty. Servings are generous, with prices that won't break the budget. All the food at the Gilbert Street Hotel is perfectly cooked, irrespective of the cuisine's heritage. The carousel of a wine list has a number of gems, plus the dessert specials are divine.

Envy the locals!
As I've been a regular at this fine pub for some time now, it's clear that the people at the Gilbert really care about what they do. The lack of pretention helps, the staff are always smiling at you and the food is of restaurant quality. One of the best burgers in Adelaide and a legendary tapas menu. Everything is done the way its should be - schnitzels that are made of real meat, big thick chips fresh warm bread, the works. The decor is refreshing and the beer garden is magical, complete with a water feature. It's well worth it.
