There is always a festive mood here, where walls of German memorabilia, modest wooden furniture and table vases with ornamental flowers give the room a welcome cosiness. Settle in with a bottle of Dunkelweizen or Hefeweizen and away you go.
The menu surprises with pizzas, pastas and parmigiana. Salt and pepper calamari salad doesn't really have a Germanic ring to it either but provides a fine alternative to meaty dishes. Surf and turf sounds more ocker than oom-pah but porterhouse steak with creamy garlic prawns may just tempt you away from the leberkase (specialty meatloaf). Served with fried egg and potato salad, it is one of the bistro's most popular choices.
Sausages and schnitzels take up two-thirds of the German fare. Main courses put chips, salad and mustard on the plate with your choice of two garlic or spicy bratwurst, or viennas. While pork Cumberlands deliver a more traditional accompaniment of sauerkraut, kransky comes with chips only, although even they become redundant after your first bite punctures the sausage skin and warm cheese oozes across your tongue. Try the pancakes, but as a side; kartoffelpuffers will round you off nicely with their filling potato stuffing.
