Known and loved for its woodfired pizzas, homemade gnocchi and warm, genuine hospitality, this is classic Italian dining at its best. Gennaro Perna and his wife Gina make sure this place is exactly the kind of homelike, inviting and relaxed restaurant you want in your neighbourhood. But if it doesn't happen to be in your neighbourhood, do as the devoted regulars do and make the trip just for Gennaro's Special pizza of Napoli sauce, mozzarella, Italian pork sausage, olives, roasted peppers, semidried tomatoes, mushrooms, bocconcini cheese, onion, basil and parsley. It's a mouthful, and satisfying as anything - except maybe the homemade spinach and ricotta cannelloni. The sweet calzones are worth saving room for, too, particularly the banana, custard and caramel sauce combination topped with ice-cream.
