Gastronomic gourmands of Melbourne, listen up. Apparently Gas Eatery & Supplies, or just "Gas" to its addicted frequenters, has institution status in the South Melbourne scene. With this kind of reputation, you might have to get in quick smart for a spot at one of the communal tables inside, or a sun-soaked seat on the pavement. Luckily, the fresh Mediterranean and Middle Eastern-inflected brunch, lunch, mezze and tapas fare holds much that is worth waiting for, like, say, a vegie moussaka or a filling-heavy flatbread. If you feel like a Gas refuel when you're back home, never fear - you can buy some of the titular "supplies" that fill the cafe, or take your meals home for a couch nosh.
