It's probably a very good thing that Garden Tuscany opened in quiet Moonee Ponds. If a place with this much unassuming, rustic charm were to open in the CBD, countless people would be completely incapacitated by apoplectic fits of pure rapture.
With its earthen terracotta toned walls and cosy, secluded nooks, Garden Tuscany has the homely feel of someone's own backyard. This might be because it is.
After years of red tape, owners Sam and Stella Maurici managed to turn their quaint little backyard into their quaint little Tuscan cafe, complete with a homemade woodfire oven (purpose built for their daughter's wedding). It's only fitting then that thin crust pizzas make up the majority of the menu, paired laudably with classic Italian salads and sides. Just be sure to save some room for a melted couverture hot chocolate with ground chilli or a scoop of gelato or two.

Cafe...oozing with Tuscan charm
Garden Tuscany is a real find. Tucked away in a laneway off Puckle street you step into a warm and welcoming garden, oozing with Tuscan charm. I visited with a friend and we brought our young pre-schoolers with us who were made to feel very welcome. Our children quickly declared the cafe 'soo beautiful', and happily demolished their pizza before eyeing off dessert. The desserts were very tempting - my friend and the children tucked into the churros with dipping chocolate, while I couldn't resist the home made chocolates as the perfect sweetner with my coffee. Garden Tuscany is a special place, and combines a gorgeous environment with a relaxed and friendly ambience, and will no doubt quickly become a firm favourite with the locals.
