Garden Court
Sofitel hotels aren't known for doing things by halves, but the Sofitel Wentworth has gone all out in sprucing up their signature restaurant, Garden Court. Set on the fifth floor of the hotel, the rooftop garden for which the restaurant is named is an enchanting surprise in a city that seemingly prefers air-conditioned interiors to courtyards. With floor-to-ceiling glass separating this CBD sanctuary from the restaurant, Garden Court presents as the sophisticated love child of a vegetation-lined conservatory and a Parisian bistro. Inside, the space is given more of a French-Riviera-meets-Caribbean-resort ambience with blindingly white linen, sassy black-and-white striped banquettes, lush greenery and wallpaper with a quirky pineapple motif. Heading up the kitchen is classically trained executive chef Andreas Donnerbauer, who offers a menu of exquisitely presented cuisine. Look out for dishes such as the snapper with lobster tail and intensely flavoured seafood sausage, polenta pungently scented with truffles or an intricately deconstructed nicoise salad. Garden Court caters to the eat-and-run corporate crowd with their 30-minute lunch - a fast-paced meal of four light courses. For lazy, long lunches and romantic dinner dates, all the staff are very knowledgeable when it comes to the extensive wine list.
