Gallery Cafe

One wouldn't normally expect to find something tasty in the sculpture annex of the Bendigo Art Gallery, but don't let expectations hinder your curiosity or you might never stumble across the Gallery Cafe. At this artistic eatery overlooking Rosalind Park, chef Renzo Panozzo serves up fresh, contemporary cuisine, with a strong emphasis on ingredients from BC3 - the company Panozzo started with fellow chef Randall Blakemore to promote local Bendigo produce.

Panozzo's menu might include such dishes as a cheese platter of Mersey Valley chedder and brie, with BC3's aubergine and orange jam or spicy raspberry and balsamic jam; lime and chilli fish cakes, served on Asian-inspired coleslaw drizzled with chilli sauce; or oven-baked swordfish on a rocket, orange, fennel and parmesan salad. Of course, it's hard to go past the signature dish of zucchini fritters with chilli prawns on a bed of spinach, with mango and tomato salsa, and zingy wasabi mayonnaise.

On sunny days, diners can sit out in the cafe's red brick and bluestone-lined courtyard; or soak up some rays through the glass in the airy white interior. The tranquil vista makes all too easy to be lured into just one more glass of wine before getting back to the art appreciation.

Beautiful find
I was surprised by this place. First I didn't know it was there and then was excited by the food. It was delicious. Serivce was friendly and quick. A good lunch spot though a little pricy for too often.
