Get stuck into one of best lasagnes in Sydney - the lasagne al forno at Fratelli Paradiso. This isn't a rustica-style restaurant, however (how could it be in Potts Point?), and it serves postmodern Italian food with style. Start the day with the adjoining bakery's risen wonders or maybe a riso al latte (vanilla rice pudding) and finish it with a tortino di cioccolate. It's all bene. The selection of seasonal Italian dishes is slick and satisfying, and the wine list is well-chosen. Get in early to avoid queues!

Gourmet Traveller Feature Review - "A bastion of Italian restaurant culture and more Melbourne than Sydney in style, Fratelli Paradiso is a place where locals come for the ever-charming waiters as much as the gutsy food."
Gourmet Travller 2009 Australian Restaurant Guide - "Tall. Dark. Handsome. All-Italian, mostly male staff bustle about this dimly lit room with graphic wallpaper on one side, and an equally graphic chalkboard menu on the other."

Really is paradise
As a reasonably close local (darlo) whenever considering where to have a great meal out fratelli is always top of the list. Consequently i have been there many times and loved every one! The constantly changing menu is great for regulars, but their staples are always to die for. I recommend the caprese salad, the lasagne (best in syd i think!) the calamari and if they have their steak for 2- Yum! Start of the meal with an aperol spritz, throw in a couple of bottles of italian wine, finish with a great espresso and an averna, Really is paradise! Great friendly atmosphere, either get there very early or late to secure a spot outside as it gets packed. Also a great atmosphere inside with the creative wallpaper. I tend to go later in the afternoon, i love that its all ay dining. Its so relaxed i once stayed so long people where arriving for dinner!
Definitely one of my favorites in sydney, cant wait to go back.

Not quite Paradiso
Shame - this used to be a great place to sit and have a long lunch on a sunny afternoon. The food was always good, the service great and the atmosphere excellent. Whilst the latter was still almost there, due to it being busy, the food and the service need some serious attention. Starters should have rung bells, as they weren't quite right. Belly of pork served in slices large enough to cover the whole plate and enought for a main, calamari in rings that could have almost come from a local takeaway! The swordfish was quite good, and the best of the bunch. Of the three mains, the rather dull lasagne was the pick. A gnocchi that was cooked almost to the point of being mashed potato once again and a saffron risotto that was far too under cooked to be called al dente showed a consistency that erred well on the side of below average. When the waiter cleared and asked if all was ok and it was mentioned that there were one or two things that weren't great, either he couldn't have cared less or was not sure how to deal with a customer actually being truthful. And we were very polite about it all too! He mumbled something and wondered off without a word of an apology or that he would pass on our comments. As I say, shame, because a little of the right service and you tend to give places another chance.

Used to be better
The lack of a written menu for outside diners does not consider the needs of the diner. If waiters are expected to 'speak' the full menu then they need to speak clear English to be understood. Sadly this is often not the case here; and ambient noise only makes it more of a struggle 'to hear the menu'. Accompaniments often do not match what is described by the'spoken-menu' e.g. two over-cooked beans just made the plural description factual. Was better when it first opened.

Must Go!
Well worth going at any time of day - the pastries are amazing as are the meals - although I haven't been there for dinner yet. One day.
The service can be hit and miss - the girls are always friendly, some of the fellas need an attitude re-adjustment though.
That said, grab a coffee and a pastry and enjoy!
