In a suburb seemingly overrun with cool cafes, this Surry Hills addition has managed to make its mark and somehow stand out from the crowd. Since opening in November 2009, fouratefive has been the name on the lips of critics and hipsters alike. So what's all the fuss about?
While the too-cool-for-school waitresses and arty decor may be some of the attraction, it's the food here that's really got these guys over the line. Breakfast and lunch are both served with equal enthusiasm, a mix of cafe classics and their own touch. The Moroccan baked eggs are a breakfast specialty, served with almonds, labne and grilled bread, but the French toast is also a hit, stuffed with bananas and served with maple syrup, mascarpone and rhubarb.
Lunch is all about the sandwiches (though they do bake their own free-range chicken pies), which may sound overly simple until you read just what goes into them. Roast beef on grilled sourdough is accompanied by a tangy mix of fresh tomato, onion relish, polski ogorki and cos lettuce; while the famous pulled pork number comes with pickled carrot and radish, apple and tomato chutney, aioli and rocket.
