Armed with the tagline 'Sydney's oldest pub', the Fortune of War Hotel is certainly fortunate to have stood the test of time since its glorious inception back in 1828. Born out of a former convict's desire to foster beer-drinking fun times among his fellow new Australians, this rustic pub continues the tradition in a fine way; the George Street Bar offers 15 beers on tap, so you never run out of amber liquid goodness. Meanwhile, the pub's First Fleet Bar notches up ultra-homely and robust bistro fare, such as homemade gourmet pies, beef goulash, the daily roast and other foods that ably complement the flowing ales.
