Part cheese shop, part restaurant, Formaggi Ocello is all heart, and it's all about good food, great wine and excellent cheese. With a rustic, rich wood interior and outdoor terrace looking over the St Margaret's complex, there's a focus on casual, unstuffy dining, and just popping in for an afternoon drink and a snack or two is encouraged - on weekdays each glass of wine comes with a complimentary snack or small cheese plate. A carefully selected wine list full of Italian, French and Australian drops is eclectic, with a Puiatti Ruttars pinot grigio from Italy mixing with a Pierre Brecht gewurztraminer from France, and Margaret River chardonnays and sauvignon blancs. The food is classic Italian and includes warming lunches like porcini mushroom risotto and lasagne, as well as lighter panini and spuntini (small bites or snacks). And once done, perusing the cheese shop for a few take-home treats for later is always a good option.
