This is one place that Bondi locals have been keen to keep to themselves, but with cocktails such as the Kiss Me, Pash Me, where passionfruit vodka, apricot nectar, cranberry juice with a hint of Absinthe lustily loll about together, it hasn't taken long for the word to sneak out. You'll find this moody haven for drinking and dining a towel-toss or two up the hill from the sands of Bondi Beach.
The boys at The Flying Squirrel think tapas is about how you eat rather than what you eat. With that in mind you'd be best placed to bring a posse and slowly work your way through a few glasses of their international wines and their loose international interpretation of tapas. The menu is divided into morsels, from edamame with Murray River sea salt to samplings of Basque cheese. From there you can mosey across three sections of the menu from the garden, land or sea. It can take you on a trip from crisp and stuffed zucchini flowers to Coorong Black Angus skirt steak that gets a blast of the chargrill before sitting down with garlic sweet potato mash and chimichurri - a South American herb paste with a base of oregano and garlic. Try the garlic prawn cutlets served with a garlic tomato sauce and fresh scallions or, if you've fallen under the squirrel's sexy vibe (or for one of the local boho lasses who frequent here), maybe it's best to lay off the garlic and order another one of those cocktails.

The Squirrel rocks
Great little neighbourhood place. Very cool and funky. I understand they've recently opened up a small bar in the upstairs space. The food's terrific and the cocktails great. The owner is Canadian so there's hard to fine things like a Clamato on the menu, with none of the attitude you can find all too easily at some other beach establishments.
