Not worth the money
We went to Flint for a celebrationa, which turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. We were seated at the front of the restaurant which was kind of a thoroughfare. The waitress was nice although a bit unprofessional at times, for example our bread plate stayed on the table throughout the whole meal. We had french onion soup and scallops for entrees, which were a bit bland and the scallops were small and overcooked. For mains we had the steak frites, the meat was a poor cut and the fries were a bit soggy, although the jus was lovely. We also had the blue eye cod, while it was well-cooked and the flavours were interesting individually, the dish was confusing, it just didn't seem to work as a whole. I wouldn't go back here again, it's trying to be upmarket but the menu is overpriced for what it is.

Service was appalling and food lousy
We had a table of four for dinner on a monday night. After asking three times for our order to be taken, our meals started to come out. The side dishes were wrong and had to be sent back. By the time they came out a second time we had finished our meals. One of the meals (a steak) had to be sent back as it was ridiculously tough and uneatable, only be told the chef was was not happy with the cuts of meat and that something else had to be ordered off the menu. It was clear that the waiter had no idea what he was doing (maybe he was new). Finally, to add insult to injury, the bill was drawn up incorrectly and a disagreement arose with the manager. The manager was rude and argumentative (and clearly in the wrong). Overall the service was laughable and the food was to a poor standard.

We'd expect better
For an up-market establishment, we would have expected better. Although the food was great, the service was abysmal. We had an hour and a half to eat before having to go to a movie and after conferring with the waitress, she confirmed that that was ample time to order an entree and a main. It took a healthy 20 minutes for her to even take our orders for food and drinks (she was only waiting three tables at the time), almost an hour to receive our entrees which left only 10 minutes to eat our main meals. To make matters worse, only two of the four meals ordered were received because of an 'error in the kitchen'. We had to share the two mains between the four of us and race off to the movie. A very unpleasant experience considering the price of the meals. We will stick to the other 'tried and true' up-market restaurants in the future.
The atmosphere was only rated as average as there was a lot of echo which made it difficult to maintain a conversation.

Fantastic Dining Experience
My wife and I dinned at Flint, and the only words my wife could use was WOW. We both had the degustation menu, and were amazaed by the flavour and texture presented to us. The Seared Yellow Fin Tune was exceptional, the Feuillete Escargot was delishious, and so was the Schzuan Lamb Rack. The seven course were accompnied by wines that complimented to food.
The services was freindly and professional, our waitress Amber was a breath of freash air, she explained the dishes and wine with a smile and friendly persona, I feel her service turned a fantasic meal, into a Extraordinary Dining Experiance.
I wish Flint all the best and rank them as one of the best Restaurants in the Canberra region.

Great food let down by poor service
An hour and four requests later, we finally had our wine - marginally before all our food came out (the garlic pizza bread we'd ordered to nibble on with our drinks at the same time as the mains). Unfortunately one bottle of wine had to go back because it was the wrong one, and it took a few more requests to get a glass for the beer drinker on the table (we were informed they they were 'waiting for the glasses to come back in' before they could bring us one).
The food was excellent - dishes on our table included a lovely mushroom pizza fragrant with truffle oil, excellent wild barramundi with steamed kipflers, and twice baked cheese souffles that were gone before I could ask for a taste. The setting in the courtyard was pleasantly cool after a warm day with noise at a comfortable level (although we could have done without the same Cat Empire song on high rotation for the last hour or so of our meal).
What a shame that the great food and surrounds were so badly let down by untrained, disorganised floor staff with little knowledge of the menu and wine list and seemingly no sense of hospitality.
Waiting a bit longer to be served on a busy night is understandable, but being allowed to feel ignored is inexcusable. Despite the great food, we won't be back until we hear that the service has improved a lot.

Fantastic all round
Having read the previous reviews I was a little concerned about how our night would go. Well, if there has either been a huge improvement or the other reviewers were dodgy.
We started with a round of cocktails which were all delicious and served in good time.
For entree I had the duck and pistachio terrine which was great. On our table we also tried the Escargot, twice baked souffle and the calamari. I would go back for all of them. The calamari was crispy with a hint of spice on the crust but tender and gorgeous in the middle. Souffle was snaffled down in seconds and escargot just as quick.
Mains I had the steak frites which was cooked perfectly and the parmesan truffle chips, mmmm. The lamb was also tender and well cooked.
By dessert we were a little full so we shared the plate of chocolate decadence. The choc was clearly high quality without that overly bitter flavour that puts some people off.
We finished with a few rounds of liquers.
The service was excellent. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and even the head chef talked to us over the service counter. We sat right near the pass and watching the meals get plated was a highlight.
I am going again this week and can't wait to try the rest of the menu. We are also planning a lunch event outside with some pizzas and salads.
EXCELLENT!

Better on my second try
The first time I went to Flint it was for a work function during Flint's early days. I must admit I was very disappointed at the time by the thin menu, service was average and they ran out of almost every beer on the menu. However, I had dinner again at Flint last night and my goodness, what an improvement!! The service was very friendly and attentive, the food was very quick to arrive, esp since we had advised the staff that we had another engagement to get to by a certain time. I have to admit the mains menu is still a little thin, especially if steak is not your thing but the entrees and pizzas were really really good. Perhaps my first experience at Flint came across teething problems not unexpected of a new restaurant, but there is certainly nothing new or amateur about the place now.

mediocre service matched perfectly by the food
Apart from the hopeless parking, first impressions were generally quite good - the space is nicely designed, despite the fairly contrived placement of some of the artwork. The menu is small but reasonably well constructed. Unfortunately, the bistro style food was very poorly executed. Our mains, (including a classic steak frites) fell way short of expectations. The service, while attentive enough at the start dropped off dramatically when we didnt respond enthusiastically a query about our meals. Overall a fairly disappointing experience.

Poor Service, Poor Value, Limited Menu
The menu at Flint is very limited and if there were specials on offer we were not infomred of them. We had to wait over 30 minutes for our meal despite having a reasonably early sitting, indeed we ordered before the table sitting next to us and they had finished their meals before ours arrived. At no stage were we informed of the delay or the cause. When the meals arrived they were extremely disappointing both in quality and quantity. We will not be returning.

Great food, outstanding service
In my three major dinners at Flint over the last month, my guests and I have commented on the excellent food and the outstandingly attentive service at this new restaurant. The staff try to please (and succeed!), while the menu has been fresh and creative, especially on the fish/seafood side. Desserts are up the same delicious and creative standard of the entrees and mains - which is unusual in all but top restaurants, in my experience. Food is matched by broad wine list, chosen by a wine lover. I recommend the courtyard in fine weather - a wonderful relaxing time in the summer months, particularly for lunch, but also for dinner. One of the best restaurants in Canberra - and not taking itself for granted!

Good Food, Very Good Service, but Hopeless Parking
Great ambiance, but very noisy when crowded; attentive service; good food (but it was a bit off-putting to observe the chef in the open kitchen pressing the grilled meat with his finger and then tasting the finger, and tasting successive sauces with the same spoon, with no washing of the spoon or the finger between tastings). The really big anti was the parking - sure there is a lot of construction going on at the moment, but there was absolutely no legal parking available in the area at noon, and everyone in my party of twelve people had to leave the venue during their meal to go and move their vehicles, and hope to find another parking space (all the parking has a two-hour limit). Sure, the place has parking available for 'guests of the house' but the front desk insisted that this did not extend to guests who were spending a small fortune in the dining room. I will never go at lunch-time again.
