The newest offering from celebrity chef Tom Kime, this surprisingly low-key, accessible little restaurant is proving a popular spot with those in the know. With the aim of relying on sustainable, caught - not farmed - seafood, and an eye on gaining full certification from the Marine Stewardship Council, the focus is on ethical eating, and the result is a menu full of surprising and innovative dishes (ling or yellow-eye, anyone?).
The classic Provencal fish stew with rouille and croutons is proving popular already, as are the herbed fish cakes with crushed potatoes and dill mayonnaise. Simple, familiar, English and Mediterranean flavours mix with a dash of Asian influence to create slightly unusual combinations, as with the baked ling in a foil parcel with roast tomatoes, spring onions, parsley and white wine served with crushed potatoes with herbs and capers. The restaurant has a classic bistro look, with its bentwood chairs and blackboard specials, and the tiled floor makes for a boisterous and lively - if loud - atmosphere.
