Fire and Ice

Refreshing its image in early 2009, this Toowoomba eatery is now more of a welcoming family bistro than a posh fine diner. But that's a good thing for Fire and Ice, which keeps its focus on quality steaks, ribs, fish and other fiery favourites. Vegetarian and coeliac options are readily available, and kids are also well catered for in this laidback and casual lunch and dinner spot. The affordable meal prices are another asset to this not-so-icy haven.

Never return
Our dining experience was terrible.
Paid top price for our fillet steak which was tough and fatty. Vegetables overcooked, no flavour with no effort in the plating up of the meal.
Serve yourself with drinks and ordering meals.
Atmosphere - there is none and is very noisy.
We will definitely NOT be returning.

Good Restaurant Food after remodel.
The new look Fire & Ice is a vast improvement from the old restaurant. The food is better and the place looks better. There is no longer table service, but meals arrived on time and atmosphere has improved. It also has cheaper meal options for the thrifty;). You can get something reasonable for $10-15. I wouldn't quite call it fine dining (can it be fine dining without table service), but instead the menu caters for most budgets and tastes.

Pathetic excuse for fine dining
I just moved to Toowoomba from Sydney and I have to say I am really shocked at the so called "fine dining" restaurants here. I was really looking forward to going to this restaurant. I was very disappointed, fine dining restaurants do not have "club" carpet, coasters, chipped tables, dodgy middy glasses! My steak was 40% fat, overcooked, cold.. and far too expensive. There is no need to charge these prices in Toowoomba. If I can pay 1/4 of this price in cbd Sydney for the same quality at a restaurant, that is better presented and paying 5 times the rent, I know I am getting ripped off. Upside the service was quite good.

Can't agree with negative reviews
I go here on a regular basis and always enjoy food and service. It is a fine dining restaurant that updates their menu and wine list regularly. If you are looking for pub grub for nicks don't go here. Here you get fresh innovative food without the pretentious service. Yes it may cost more then your average coffee shop chain but you wont see a microwave in this kitchen. If you love fine cuisine at its best this is one place in Toowoomba where you get it. The decor is modern with lots of wood and glass, in my opinion very classy but not overstated. Glen the head chef is well travelled, he has a great deal of experience and interest in modern Australian cuisine. Car parking isn't an issue here and one of the advantages being attached to a hotel is the courtesy shuttle bus that will pick you up and drop you home.

All I can say if you don't like this restaurant your taste buds have been tainted by the glut of corperate fast food and superfluous wannabe coffee shops that now litter the Australian dining scene.

Tried it Again but still diappointing
Had lunch at Fire and Ice when it first opened a couple of years ago and left still hungry and feeling ripped off. Very small main meal of a crab pasta dish that I had paid around $25 for, about the size of a VERY small desert bowl. We went back because had heard other people saying how good the food was etc etc. Nothing has changed, this is just a dining area in a pub given a slick makeover with a view of the bitumen car part and they feel they can charge the same prices as some of our favourites in Brisbane, like Char Char Char, Il Centro. It simply does not have the view, professional service or value for money to justify these prices. We are now locals in Toowoomba for the past couple of years and are willing to admit that Fire and Ice's lack of professional service is an issue that is universally shared by all restaurants we have been to in town. If someone finally gets it right there is some real money to be made in our city of over 100,000 people.
