Like Buddha attained spiritual enlightenment sitting beneath a fig tree, diners at this Forrest cafe/restaurant could also achieve enlightenment - of the culinary variety, that is.
Situated in the Rydges Hotel, the menu offers diners a trip to culinary heaven with modern Australian dishes that use the freshest ingredients. Dishes such as the ethereal pan-seared scallops, cauliflower puree and micro herbs for an entree are juxtaposed with more earthly main course offerings such as braised lamb shanks, creamy potato mousse, Dutch carrots and gravy. No trip to heaven would be complete without a sweet finish, and dining at Fig Tree, patrons have the option of sweet dishes such as pear tart tartin and cinnamon studded ice cream.

Bad Management
For a Rydges establishment I would have thought that the management would be able to provide adequate staff for their cafe.
There was only one waiter for 11 tables apparently due to a no show. Individually this lad did a five star job, was polite and coped with the overload well but inevitably service was slow. Unfortunately he wont be around much longer.
The food was good and fresh and the drinks great.
The atmosphere in the atrium was ordinary with didners huddled together (I guess to help the solitary waiter)and seemed cold and empty in a vast mausoleum.
