The 40 year old virgin
Imagine if you will Establishment on a Thursday night. Two guys are there: one average looking, nice guy full of confidence and chat; the other great looking, kind to orphans and animals, a millionaire, drives a porsche, but lacking in confidence and too shy to strike up a conversation. The guy full of confidence gets all the attention, gets all the phone numbers, and the shy guy - despite the fact he has everything any woman could ever want - goes home sad and alone and is never seen again.
Fig and Feast is that shy guy. My fear is I won't see it again, by the time I go back it will have changed hands again, as this location so often does.
And I will be sad, because it is a good - very good - local restaurant but it just lacks confidence. Why is it that I get 200 flyers a week from delivery pizza companies, but the one decent place within five minutes walk from my house has never even winked at me as I walk past?
F&F ticks all the boxes, but on a Friday night was virtually empty. My starter of chilli squid was, as far as I could tell, devoid of chilli but still excellent. Both the Blonde and I opted for the beef for our main, and it was a fine fillet that arrived - just a shame that it was half a cow each. Yes I know I could have left it on the plate, but that seems like a waste, so I was a pig and ate the whole cow. And as a result there was no pudding.
So F&F please do the decent thing: toughen up and get out there. Tell people how good you are and they will come, and I'll be pleased that when I come back you'll still be there. And I promise that if you put a flyer in my letter box, I won't throw it away.
