At first glance Felice's could be a conglomeration of all your worst holiday nightmares as a kid, from he foosball table from the circa-1970s kids room you got stuck in at that rundown motel, the scale model aeroplane vividly imprinted on your memory from that terribly kitsch trinket museum.
But once you settle in, Felice's really grows on you. The dark timber panelling and smoky mirrors make the surrounds offbeat enough during the day and easily transfer Felice's to a nice watering hole at night. The sparse menu, drawing from owners Felix and Angela's Italian heritage, is simple but satisfying. In the same way a pizza with fewer toppings is better, the minimalist approach here gives Felice's its intangible appeal. Try an antipasto platter with a hit of grappa and you'll soon see why this place is one of Fitzroy's true gems.
