The seriously large dining room at the Feathers Hotel offers both an a la carte menu and a smorgasbord. The latter is popular with the Sunday lunch crowd or for weekday dining when time allows for unrestrained gobbling. Lift the lid on the daily kettle of soup and ferry a bowl back to your table with freshly baked bread. Sip on it while you strategically plot your course through hot entrees, salads, Gulf prawns and the hot roast carvery. Did I mention desserts? Think gateaux, pastries, cakes, mousse and cheeses.
The a la carte menu is contemporary Australian with a focus on seafood and steaks. The house specialty is veal Oscar, where pan-fried medallions, mushrooms, asparagus and king prawns all go up in flames - of the good, brandy-fueled kind. Finished with demi-glaze and cream, this classic dish is served with scalloped potato.
Head to The Feathers if you feel like a feast fit for a king or just want to feel like royalty when dining. Its Edwardian-style architecture has graced Burnside since 1966 and the regal dining room will warm you with its elegant charm.
