Fawkner

Housed in an old pub overlooking the Fawkner gardens, this place has been beautifully renovated, but retains bucket-loads of character and old-fashioned charm. Almost-medieval circular chandeliers hang over smart wooden tables and bistro chairs. Long, leather couches are arranged in a banquette style, while in winter, the open fire adds to the intimate feel.

Take it from a Brit... the beer is goooooooooood!
We had such a brilliant time and the food was literally mouthwatering! The choice of beer on tap was excellent and the specials were worth calling special! We were especially pleased to see wine from the Yarra Valley on the menu after recently touring the region with some local friends. We loved the friendly, cosy atmosphere and deco... the owners clearly have a great eye for design. We also want to mention the toilets (often overlooked in reviews but very important). After a delicious meal we were pleasantly surprised to be able to use such clean, eloquent facilities. Attention to detail can be seen everywhere from the log fire, to the smiling staff and flavoursome food. Highly recommended!!

Great b'day
Recently celebrated a friend's birthday at The Fawkner. We had a great night. Started in the bar with a selection of bar snacks and wine (reasonably priced, especially for the beautiful area), then moved to some tables. I am pretty sure everyone loved their meals, I know I did! I had a seafood pasta and shared some sides, but others had oysters, duck livers, steaks, etc... all presented very nicely. Looks like they get a good trade these days as well. Service excellent.

One of Melbourne's best value qulaity meals
I took my girlfriend to The Fawkner a while ago and have been back quite a few times since. It's very hard to have a bar and restaurant set up in the one premises that works, and they do it. The food is always great and the chef clearly has a passion for quality produce. The food is consistent and the menu well priced. Service always top notch. Highly recommend.

A real highlight
I went here with a group of girls for dinner last night on a recommendation of some St Kilda Rd working friends who went to the Fawkner for a work function last week. I have to say, it was fantastic.

We started with some freshly shucked oysters and steamed asparagus spears with toasted almonds in truffle oil. Yum!

I ordered a seafood salad which was amazing (bring on the moreton bay bugs) and the steak looked great.

Desserts are also a highlight, and not just because we moved to have them by the open fire!

Overall, great food, friendly service, good price (3 course + wine around $50 each) and will be back for sure!

Recently re-opened
After a business lunch in this restaurant I spoke to staff who advised me that it has just re-opened and is under new management. I wouldn't have known as the food was great and the service was very professional. I plan to return for an evening meal in the near future. The prices and menu on this site should be used as a guide only but the food is worth the little they charge for it. Would highly recommend.

very yummo tapas
I fantasize about the tapas from here. Tasty stuff. Nice wines by the glass and plenty of beers to choose from. Will definitely be going back for a bigger plate of entrees.

Good fun
Went here in early September 2005 with a group of friends. Loved the tapas-style starters and desserts. They also have a large number of wines that can be ordered by ther glass. Food was good and imaginative. Professional staff. Would definitely go again next time we are in Melbourne
