Not Quite Indian
A most interesting experience. Sri Lankan cooking seems to be like southern Indian - fairly heavily spiced. This is taken care of by offering each of the mains in various heats, something that worked well for us. The main difficulty we found is our lack of familiarity the dishes combined with a shortage of description on the menus. Our waitress was trying hard but seemed inexperienced with the cuisine. Our main complaint is that the dishes came out as and when ready - rather than the western way of starters then mains. So we ended up with one of the party not getting his starter until almost the same time as the mains - and having "helped" us with our starters he was no longer interested. I discussed this with the owner and was advised it is the traditional way. It might be something that they could look at to make themselves more welcoming to non-Sri Lankans. The restaurant seems to be fairly recently opened and we wish them well with it.
