A mainstay of Melbourne's Chinatown, The Empress impresses with its Cantonese-style dishes. Help is happily given to those who wish to delve into the more unusual items on the menu. There are some pleasant surprises at this stayer of the Melbourne Chinatown scene, such as the sang choy bao filled with shark's fin, crab and scrambled egg. All the regular items you'd expect of a Chinese restaurant are on the menu but specials are usually more tantalising and could include steamed prawns stuffed with seafood mousse.

Speedy service
Food arrived promptly, we ordered a plate of pork dumplings - reasonably priced - and noodles. In terms of taste, you do get your moneys worth, however service was lacking, nor was it the most well presented restaurant. Stop by for a cheap and quick eat.

Unpleasant.
Started a great night badly basically, got into the restaurant and wasn't pleased with the decor. There wasn't anything on the menu that jump out at any of the group, and it was a group of eight. We had asked for some spring rolls and dim sims, and if we hadn't we would of walked out. We ordered a few plates to share as a group. Admittedly it was very prompt, we were in decisive in what we were going to get. Our meal was on our table quickly (it was early on in the night, not many customers yet) It was quite tacky. I would not recommend this restaurant.
