Offering modern Australian and European tapas, Emmilou Lounge and Tapas Bar is a cool, stylish and modern space to wine, dine and groove into the night.
Young, energetic chef Chris Cranswick-Smith has had an impressive career so far, working at some of Sydney's best restaurants including Aria and Est. He recently returned from four years working abroad in Michelin-starred restaurants, as well as slaving away for a few seasons on elite super-yachts, cooking for the rich, famous and royal.
Sydney diners can now benefit from his well-travelled tastes at this dramatically fashionable eatery. Some highlights include the polenta blanca - seared white polenta, featuring wild mushroom foam and parmesan crisps - and the ceviche de salmon, featuring blackened salmon, spiced beetroot and apple cider vinaigrette. Keep an eye out for their event nights, such as the weekly 'Old-Fashioned Mondays', where everything turns a bit 1920s in both ambience and cuisine.

Modern twist on tapas
We were greeted by a friendly and welcoming girl who showed us to our table located in the corner of the breezy terrace. A comprehensive cocktail and wine list (23 pages!) followed shortly which distracted us from the food menu for a moment, but it wasn't long before we were contemplating the number of options that sounded equally as mouth-watering as the next. After perusing the menu we decided on a combination of bar snacks and tapas together with a Petit Chablis from William Fevre which was light and refreshing. The most outstanding of our selection was the Cured Wild Boar with Warm Fennel & Garlic Salami. An amazing arrangement of thinly sliced yet delicately salty meat with a soft texture, combined with a swish of aioli and tomato relish atop of a crispy shard of toast; it was a taste sensation. We shared the Sardines on Toast (lovely little sardine fillets with a subtle chilli zing), the Warm Sweet and Spicy Chorizo Salad (juicy, generous serve of chorizo with a well proportioned sweet and sour sauce) and the Crispy Blue Eye Cod with Braised Beef Cheek and Scallops (Cod was crispy on the outside and perfectly tender on the inside, combined with the melt-in-your-mouth Beef Cheek provided a unique combo of texture and taste and I savoured every morsel! The scallops were tender, and silky and cooked to perfection). I highly recommend this little gem for anyone that enjoys tapas but prefers a dining experience that is nothing short of impressive and inventive. Emmilou has a great vibe and the ecclectic background music keeps the atmosphere lively. The perfect place for a date night.

All Class
There was a time when places like this in Sydney did not exist...I'm glad that has changed.
This place is so cool you want to be the only one that knows about it! The tapas, the cocktails, the ultra-slick surrounds... the tapas is so inviting and so inventive, well done to the team in the kitchen! The floor staff move in a well-choreographed sequence for a truly lovely time. Highly recomended.
