Awarded WA's Gold Plate award for best new restaurant in 2006, this modern Australian eatery is well worth a visit. With an outdoor terrace that overlooks the beach and a bright, fresh interior, it's also one of Perth's best-placed dining areas. Serving an extensive range of seafood dishes, from tempura prawns to local crayfish, the chefs specialise in dishing up some exotic game, including camels, crocodiles and kangaroo. The standout menu option is the grilled crayfish with lemon and chilli butter - simple and tantalising. Match it with one of the restaurant's extensive range of local and imported white wines and chardonnays. Mains start at $34.50, so be prepared for a gourmet feast at the higher end of the market.

Disappointing experience
My partner and I had previously dined at Emmas and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. During our recent visit we found the food quality and service had lowered. The waitress was pleasant but sheepish, unsure of the menu details and unable to recommend a bottle of wine without feedback from the owner. Both the salmon and lamb mains were overcooked which was politely commented on to the obvious annoyance of the owner whose abrupt response I found very odd and upsetting. Unfortunately we will not be going back or recommending Emmas under current management.

A Major Disappointment
My partner and I ate at Emma's on Christmas Eve with his family. We attended in a large group and were very keen to enjoy a wonderful meal. The table was set beautifully but only had the three course banquet menu available for us - We had to request the al a carte menu and ask the price of the set menu. While we were left to contemplate our choices I had to request the wine menu. The wine arrived and was professionally presented to us but this turned out to be the best part of my meal. I ordered the prawn and scallop entree which came out drowned in a very salty cream sauce. The scallops tasted like a spoon full of salt and the prawns were over cooked. As politely as possible I returned it to the waitress explaining that it was way too salty and rather than offer me another entree or try to correct this one she simply took my plate and knife and fork and returned the meal to the kitchen. To be fair my partner chose the duck entree which was delightful. It was succulent, warm, fell off the bone and beautifully combined with its sauce, however, we were both disappointed with the main blue-groper. The fish itself was nice but again had been doused in salt and I quite literally had to cut off the pan seared edge. By this stage of our meal the restaurant had filled up a lot with other patrons and this combined with the loud background music made it too noisy for me to even hear the person opposite me on our own table. I kindly asked the waitress to turn the background music down but I did not notice any change and wondered if she had even tried to complete my request. Finally my dessert of a cheese platter came out. Three cheeses were on the platter, two which were very nice, one that was not and they were served with a few crackers and three very large pieces of toasted bread which was not edible.
Overall the service was disappointing; the staff were not aware of our table and it took a while to attain eye contact with any of them.
The food was also disappointing and overly salted. A prime disappointment for $65 per head not including drinks.

Who's the customer?
I visited Emma's with my boyfriend who was visiting from the UK, we were celebrating his birthday and his first visit to Australia. Upon arrival, we ordered a beer and a soft drink and had to chase them up after 15 minutes. We waited approx one hour for our food - my boyfriend's steak was still rare despite him asking for it well done. We then ordered some more drinks and waited another 15 minutes before chasing them again. The desserts were wonderful, especially the cheese plate which was a piece of art in itself and could easily have been shared by 2 people. My boyfriend ordered a port and said it was the most extensive port choice he had ever seen (and he travels the world with his job). As we were leaving, I said that I wasn't happy with the service and he said I had to realise it was Saturday night, when I told him I actually meant waiting 15 minutes twice for drinks he said it wasn't usually like that and he would mention it to the waiters.
The bill was $158 and didn't include any wine. For that amount, I expect good service - which was badly lacking.

Professional service from the only 5 star restaurant in Rockingham
As it was my Mum's birthday I had pre-booked a 6-seater table for dinner. We knew beforehand that Emma's on the Boardwalk had the image of being a high-quality restaurant with quite high prices. The servings were not large but they filled us up so they are obviously concentrating on quality not quantity as fine-dining restaurants attempt to do.
As we entered the restaurant we were kindly greeted by a gentleman who wished my Mum a happy birthday and showed us where our table was. My initial impression of the restaurant was great as it looks very nice and most of the waiters are all very professional.
Our table ordered 2 different bottles of wine (2 people had 1 bottle and 4 had the other) but the waiters kept on filling up some of the wine glasses with the incorrect wine several times. This only seemed to be a minor inconvenience since the waiters were putting in a good effort to impress us.
After we had ordered some wine, about 4 of us ordered an entree and it took approximately 15 minutes for the plates to be brought out. I do have to say that the presentation was fantastic and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the entrees they had ordered. The only minor complaint would be the waiter who seemed intent on taking our orders 5 - 10 minutes after we sat down even though one person on the table was in the toilet and obviously didn't know what they wanted. However as soon as everyone knew what they wanted the waiter was easy to find.
We then chatted and consumed more wine while we waited approximately 45 minutes to an hour more for our main meals to come out. The restaurant at this point was busy but not full. We did not mind the delay too much as the conversation kept us busy but towards the end we were all starving.
As soon as the waiters brought out our meals we tucked into them. We all had a variety of meals from Wild Boar to steak and all were cooked to perfection. During the meal the waiters came around often but it was at the right times.
After our main meals we organised dessert which was simple amazing and presented beautifully. My Mum was also entitled to a free glass of champagne since it was her birthday.
The highlight of the evening happened when the managing waiter offered to sing my Mum a Happy Birthday involving all of the waiters in the restaurant and we were truly appreciative of this extra effort.
After we had finished the dessert and wine we proceeded to pay and were greeted by a cheerful young lady who seemed very happy to serve us even though we were the only people remaining in the restaurant, so we definitely did not get a feeling of being pushed out at all.
The male toilets were small and average and the female toilets were apparently quite nice.
The next day we realised that one of the waiters had accidentally put two drinks on our bill that we definitely did not order so we paid $15 more than we should have. We should have checked our bill thoroughly but I believe the restaurant should keep their bills in order more effectively. However this did not effect my Mum's birthday so it did not concern us to a great extent.
In summary if you're looking for a top-class restaurant with great service and romantic atmosphere in Rockingham definitely give this restaurant a try. We used it to impress our Mum for her birthday and she was very happy with everything overall.
