Embers
Embers is a hotel restaurant but is increasingly picking up local traffic drawn to the innovative menu, and attractively designed space. The food is mod-Oz with a touch of European decadence; a chef-driven menu, with frequent changes and lots of experimentation. The emphasis is on presenting the best of Tasmania's food and wine in a sophisticated setting, which the restaurant achieves very well. It's just on the edge of Hobart and there are glimpses across town, but your focus is directed inside - to the funky bar, the chic decor and of course, that menu. There's a roaring woodfired pizza oven out in full view and the breads all come hot from there to your table (tell me your mouth isn't watering). The busy kitchen produces its own delicious handmade pizza bases and pastas. The menu isn't extensive, but it's overhauled twice a year and there's always a mix of rare-cooked meats, seafood and a daily pasta creation. Overall this place has far more to offer than just another hotel restaurant - surprisingly innovative in menu and design and definitely worth a visit.
