pleasantly surprised
I "discovered" this gem nearly 8 months ago and find myself going back regularly when I am seeking somehwere local(bondi-randwick)for dinner. The menu changes regularly reflecting seasonal produce and includes an excellent range of dishes. The same dedication is shown to each course so plan on three-courses! The staff help make it personal and a special place to go.

The local?
Feeling hungry after a game of golf, I decided to head out to Elysium with my wife for an early dinner. The restaurant was just about empty when we got there so the service was very attentive and nicely personable without being intrusive. The food was good and I could sense the passion for the food being prepared. But there was one dish that tried a little too hard and the taste suffered as a result. The atmosphere is tidy and for your suburban shop converted into restaurant, was elegant without being precocious. At the end of the meal the bill for 2 entrees, 2 mains a couple of glasses of wine and one dessert was $125 which I didn't think was cheap but neither was it overly expensive. And the restaurant was almost full suggesting a lot of other locals find this good food value.

A quality local .....
I can't believe no one has reviewed this simple little gem on the Randwick Avoca St strip? I've been living in the area for about 4 years and this neat, stylishly simple, quality local eatery has been there for the most part of that. I recently returned from a quick four-week motoring trip through the centre of France and Italy and have remarked often on my return that 'if you want to just drop in to a reasonable-priced quality local eatery ... then stay here !'... and Elysium is exactly the type of quality suburban eatery that I had in mind when I have made that statement. Good inventive interesting menu (without being overly 'tricky' or 'fashionable'). Lots of evidence of 'cooking with care'...quality ingredients...genuine sauces etc...efficient and amiable Sydney standard professional service...nice simple suburban shopfront decor...and it won't overly challenge the budget of even a quite modest suburban diner (and if you just drop in and can't get in there...there are good Moroccan ,Indonesian, Thai, Nepalese and three or four others in this little Avoca St "Golden 1/2 mile" that will equally satisfy).
