There's a sense of nostalgia at this charming little cafe-cum-restaurant, and it's hard to put a finger on exactly what it is about it that makes people feel so at home. It could be the house-made sauces, jams and mayonnaise (hand beaten, of course) that taste a little like childhood memories. Or it could be the fresh produce that goes into the honest, home-style dishes or the friendly, unrushed service that makes you feel like you're at an old friend's place for dinner (albeit a friend who cooks very, very well).
Whatever it is, this place stirs up wistful memories of days gone by, and diners relax easily into the warm, familiar vibe, whether it's over breakfast, a coffee or a more intimate dinner. On some evenings, the cafe's "resident" opera singer entertains guests with a bit of Puccini, which just adds to the irresistible charm of this place.
