At the Yarra end of Exhibition Street, overlooking Birrarung Marr but still in the CBD loop, Eleven.Ex draws a mainly business crowd. Its stunning, modern, architecturally designed dining space features wooden ceilings, dark concrete and splashes of lime green housed in a slick, corporate black marble exterior.
However, artful decor aside, the cafe's tag boasts "it's all about the food", and the steady flow of satisfied customers munching and lunching certainly suggests a confirmation of the culinary saying. Chef Andrew Kaigg offers his take on a variety of mod-Oz cafe selections such as doughnuts, muffins, slices, coffee, fruit toast, lunch salads, soups and sandwiches, and signature Caesar salads with rocket. Eleven-Ex also offers beers, soft drinks and a decent wine selection to be sipped from the bottle or the glass on one of the long tables or bar-style chairs beside green and grey mosaic pillars in this Asiatic industrial space.
