Like waving a red flag in front of a bull, offering a new gastronomic option to hungry city dwellers always draws the crowds. This chic tapas bar in sun-drenched Cairns is well aware that being the newest thing on the block is not enough to keep customers coming back time and time again, which is why their menu changes regularly to spice things up (tapas-style sausage roll, anyone?).
The options are endless, as traditional Spanish flavours sit side by side with unique combinations creatively constructed by merging Australia's amazing produce and the skill of the talented chefs. The decor is chic yet relaxed, creating an environment perfect for sitting with friends, drinking and eating in the traditional way. As the Spanish would say, it isn't all about what you eat that makes the perfect meal, sometimes it is how you eat it.

A great find off the tourist path
Recently, my partner and I visited El Mundo Tapas Bar on the recommendation of a family member who lives in Cairns. We weren't disappointed. The service is attentive without hovering, the staff knowledgeable and engaging and the food superb. We got several dishes, dessert and plenty of drinks all for $99.00. The blackboards and chalk at each table for writing your orders (or drawing them) was a lovely touch as well. El Mundos is a restaurant made for parties of 7-8 with plenty of the delicious sangria to go around as well. In short, we had a wonderful evening and I only wish we had an El Mundos in our hometown!!!
