El Bulli

Plenty of places bill themselves as authentic, but this Spanish restaurant really does conjure the spirit of sultry Barcelona nights with its candlelit tables, heated courtyard and crowds of people murmuring happily through mouthfuls of paella. The menu offers a traditional selection of tapas, from patatas bravas to churros, washed down with wine and beers from the all-Spanish list or sangria, which is sold by the litre.

There's another word beginning with bull...
Had wanted to try this for a while as had heard and read some mixed reviews. Felt like a paella that night so thought I'd give this a try to cross it off my wishlist. There were two of us and we had croquettes and salad for entree and paella for main. We were warned the paella would take up to an hour which was fine by me.

The croquettes left a very bitter aftertaste. Out of the 4 pieces supplied there was one small piece of ham in one of them.

Everything in the paella (apart from the rice) was inedible, all of the seafood tasted frozen - the clams had some taste, but the taste wasn't pleasant.

The salad was ok.

The service was attentive, even a little too attentive, providing another beer before the first was even finished, and honestly I don't recall asking for another.

Interior could do with a touch up, it looks quite run down.

Maybe this place specialises in tapas rather than full meals, but I'm not going to chance it again.
