Bringing a slice of Istanbul to the Inner West, this modern Turkish restaurant sits in a beautifully restored Victorian mansion. In old Turkish, the word "efendy" described people with a traditional upbringing who took on a modern view.
The mixture of new and classic flavours is highlighted in dishes such as the four-hour slow-cooked beef cheek with smoked eggplant and kasar puree; or the lemon-marinated grilled swordfish skewer with raki-infused herb creme and bulgur pilaf. The list of mains is short yet perfectly adequate, with lamb, beef, seafood and vegetarian options. The braised lamb neck in chickpea and ox tongue wedding stew is ideal for winter dining, while the herb-marinated chicken skewer with cauliflower puree and rocket salad bursts with autumn flavours. Night owls can graze on tapas at the upstairs mezze bar, and drink rakis for less than $25 a pop.
The traditional weekend Turkish brekkies include dishes like the plenteous breakfast mezze, featuring homemade jams, butter, cucumber, tomato, Aegean olives, fetta and Turkish bread. It's not a splurge without a champagne cocktail, or perhaps a Turkish coffee paired with Turkish delight.

Must visit heaven-like restaurant in Balmain
Located in the perfect place, a quiet yet classy town, is the best Turkish Restaurant i have been to. efendy has catered for all our needs. Even on a christmas day they were open and ready to welcome guests very kindly. The service was outstanding, as the waiters were not afraid to engage in a conversation and explain the menu in detail. The kadayifli karides (prawn wrapped in kataifi) was the best of all mezes. We also had the head chef treat us to some saksuka and tea and coffee at the end of our meal which was very pleasing. The maras ice-cream was also a dessert worth enough to eat even though i was full to the max. The area, service and food was outstanding. I will make sure that we will be back to Efendy, next time we go to Sydney.

About time
A girlfriend and I dined here in the first week it was open on a girls night and it was a fantastic experience. The service was brilliant, the food fanastic and I've always loved the venue. I have been back a number of times now and would highly recommend it. There are a lot of good restaurants in the area, but this one has definitely raised the bar on the 'non hat' restaurants! It's great to have a good value for money restaurant that is actually really good, in the area again. I'd recommend it for almost all occassions, business, friends, romantic family, its got that mix where it just works!
