Edoya Japanese Restaurant

Established in 2000 by Japanese-trained sushi chef David Mok, Edoya has developed a loyal following in Melbourne's Asian and business communities. The quaint and understated restaurant is situated between the retail bustle of Bourke Street and corporate towers of Collins Street. The dining setting has a traditional Japanese vibe, but in this relatively small space, things can get extremely busy during the business lunch hour. The extensive menu changes every three months and ranges from handmade te-maki sushi, featuring vinegared rice and raw fish rolled in crisp nori to sushi deluxe, a king-sized array of fresh sushi and sashimi varieties which, at $44, is certainly the order to impress.

Hit and miss
I've been to Edoya three times, once for lunch when the bento boxes were great and twice for dinner which were a bit mixed. I ordered the sashimi mix on both times and find that the quality of the fish can be vastly different. The most recent time I went, they gave us the worst cut of the fish - the chewy ends.

Great little luncher
We had a lovely group lunch at Edoya, the food was great and the servings are huge! I will definitely be returning in the future.

The Katsudon was superb!
