E'cco Bistro

This Mediterranean-influenced restaurant has a warm and inviting space and a cheerful ambience, but does not lose its class. Operating since 1995, Philip Johnson's E'cco Bistro is total indulgence. Over the years, E'cco has received nothing but praise from patrons and awards from critics. The food is modern Australian with inspiration from the Mediterranean and everything coming out of this kitchen is simply delicious. Eating at E'cco is an experience that you will remember and your friends will envy.

Overall, over-rated
This place is not quite what is used to be. Prices have moved into a different stratosphere as the restaurant's reputation has grown, but quality and service is lagging somewhat. I have had some perfectly fine/very nice meals there, but some pretty mediocre experiences as well. They do seem to have an issue with overcooking their beef and some of the desserts are pretty pedestrian (the passionfruit pavlova in particular). Better food and value to be found elsewhere in Brisbane.

Great little funky bistro
Dined here tonight, although a little aprehensive after reading mixed reviews (rave reviews in the mags, and not so positive here), but it really delivered. After an initial little bit of attitude from staff on arrival, the rest of the evening was really pleasant. Had a great waiter (not too intrusive but very helpful and knowledgeable) and the food was amazing. If they have the slow cooked wagyu beef cheeks when you go, you MUST have them. Divine. The roquefort entree was lovely, as was the roasted pumpkin salad as a side dish. My blue eye cod was delicious and my partner's beef eye fillet was 'cooked by a skilled hand'. Sadly could not have fit in dessert if our lives depended on it - the portions were surprisingly generous and priced reasonably, given the reputation and quality of this bistro. Might have to return soon so that I can provide a more complete review, including dessert!!

Disappointing
Coming here for an anniversary was a massive mistake. We waited an hour for each meal and the tables on either side of us who ordered after us got their food long before we did. Nothing irritates me more!

The staff weren't apologetic, nor overly friendly. When the food did come it was average and small for fine-dining prices.

E'cco...three strikes and out
I don't get E'cco!! The food is at best ordinary, the service much the same and the wine list is way overpriced and self indulgent. As an example E'cco is described as Mediterranean yet tonight I was faced with a menu desperately trying to be fusion yet decidedly confused. As an example my main course was a lamb fillet with mash, supposedly shaved brussel sprouts(at this time of year??) and...wait for it...shitake mushrooms!!!??
The ambience is cold and the restaurant noisy. My final issue is that the diners on the adjacent table asked what the cheese selection was and were informed it was cheddar, blue and brie??? Please, this is supposed to be one of Brisbane's best restaurants!!! At least a region, maybe even a country if that's too much but more information than this on the cheese selection. The waiter may have felt these folks inadequate to understand but they are spending the money, and they deserve some explanation of what they are eating!! In a time when fine dining restaurants may struggle the arrogance of this restaurant needs to be punished. We've given this restaurant 3 goes and now after 3 strikes, they're out!!
