In the courts of royal princelings of Kashmir, the Punjab and Delhi, northern India's distinctively rich-flavoured and robust Mughlai cuisine was created and the tandoori clay oven was born. Very much a part of life on the old caravan routes of India travelled by traders and warriors, today the tradition has now found its way to Leederville's Oxford Street, thanks to three highly-skilled Indian and Pakistani chefs trained by the Tandoor Kitchens of Malaysia.
All their creations are freshly prepared and MSG-free, using only Halal meats to create the authentic flavours of their homeland, from fragrant tandoori chicken and spicy shish kebabs, to clean-flavoured curries and delicious roti (Indian breads). If it's your first time, the Nawabi Mixed Tandoor will give your tastebuds a crash-course in Mughlai cuisine. For the full experience, savour a glass of mango lassi, a bottle of Cobra or a cup of masala tea while admiring the myriad artefacts and signatures of Indian cricketers which don the walls.

Not so great
Not a place to go to for a quick bite. We waited 45 minutes between entrees and mains. The service was really lacking. The lamb korma was tough and quite fatty but the butter prawns were succulent and the sauce was great. The garlic naan was pretty good too.
Probably not the best Indian in town but not the worst either. If you want enough time to share a bottle of wine and sober up. Then this will be the place to go. Be prepared to stay a while.

Very bad
One of the worst resturants I've been to anywhere in the world. Asked 6 times for water, they weren't even busy. I could have made the food at home, one dish tasted exactly like a cook in sauce. Meat was dry and nann breads were from a packet.

Best butter chicken in town
I have been eating here for years and I still think this is the best curry place in town. Although it's just past the main Oxford Street strip it is well worth the extra walk. This is not a glamourous eatery and the service is certainly a little lacking but the food (and the fact that it's byo) more than makes up for it. In my opinion it serves the best butter chicken in town. Aside from that, the dahl is also superb and the lamb korma's consistently good. It's the kind of place you go with friends on a Friday night with a bottle of red in hand to just relax over good food.

Perth's best curry
There's an Indian restaurant invasion but it is hard to go past this one for their curries. I have been eating here now for the past 10 years and while it is at the wrong end of Oxford Street and the service is well below standard, the food never disappoints. It produces what I believe is the best butter chicken in town and the dhal makhani is the best I have ever tried. On a recent visit I ordered a leg of lamb in advance and took a group of friends that agreed it was the best Indian they had ever tried. While it may not have the ambience of some Indian restaurants about, takeaway is always available.

Disappointing evening
Having been here before a few years prior, and thoroughly enjoying everything,we were looking forward to a good Indian meal. Firstly the booking we had made several days earlier was not found so we were seated out the back, which was not a problem. The staff seemed to be quite inexperienced and didnt really know what they were doing. We were given the wrong order to start with. Being a vegetarian, I had ordered a dish of assorted vegies in a mild korma sauce. To my amazement this dish consisted of frozen carrots and green beans only, which were tough and chewy. My husbands lamb rogan josh was not much better, being chewy and lacking flavour. We probably should have complained but didnt want to make a fuss, and really just wanted to eat and leave by this stage. We were never asked if the meal was good so I bit my lip and we left. I must say we were very disappointed and would not go back again even though we regularly enjoy Indian meals. We really could not find anything impressive about the restaurant unfortunately.

Average Indian restaurant but nothing special
Conveniently located a short way from the city in Leederville, D'Tandoor serve authentic Indian food at a reasonable price.
The naan, main dishes were all satisfactory although in typical Indian style, the mains were quite small for the price-paid and it's the naan that really satisfies the hunger.
Service at this restaurant is pretty slow and you can't help but think it's understaffed. It is a BYO restaurant and the previously chilled bottle was getting quite warm before the wine chiller arrived and our bottle opened!
Although it can be a popular and noisy restaurant (good for a family / friend outing but not a date) I cannot find anything special about this place.
