Dragon Den

Sitting in the once-shabby, now oh-so-slick section of Darlinghurst, an area haunted by Sydney foodies and fashionistas alike, is Dragon Den Restaurant. This little piece of Vietnam in Sydney offers a range of traditional Vietnamese dishes.

If you're in the mood to go all out, there is a selection of banquets to choose from. They include three entrees, four or five mains and dessert options. The banquets allow diners the freedom to pick and choose from a selection of dishes, including cha gio (crispy spring rolls), rump fillet in black pepper sauce, goi cuon (fresh summer rolls) and salt and pepper calamari.

The prices are right (you could almost be tricked into thinking you were actually in Vietnam - well, almost) and the atmosphere is pleasant for a quick meal or a lengthy banquet experience.

WOW What a fantastic change!!!

I have never tasted such beautiful food - looks and tastes so good! New look - better service - better food!!!

I thought the place had closed down but after much investigation with the very friendly waiting staff it had closed for reno's.

I usually snap up their lemon grass beef dish for lunch (the lunch dishes are really good either $10 or $12 - so filling)I even order takeaway for later which intrigued me to come back at night just to test the settings.. so glad i did!!!

Highly recommended dishes - the curry beef - if you have to choose one dish let it be the curry oohhh so good - papaya salad and the catch of the day dish.

I have gone back twice, once on Thursday which was better than Saturday (as its usually pretty packed out with big groups) - they'll be seeing me again that's for sure!

Wish it was yum
What a disappointment! The mixed entree for 2 was enjoyable, and then the mains came...

We ordered veges and tofu in lemongrass - there was no tofu. I told the waiter when he bought it over and he said, "Yes, there is tofu". We spooned through it then spent the next few minutes trying to get his attention so we could show him that... THERE WAS NO TOFU.

We also ordered sizzling prawns with garlic, chilli and tomato which came - not sizzling. It was on the hot plate but drenched with sauce. Then the taste - wow, Kantong simmer sauce (which I haven't eaten for 10 years) and we would have done a better job because we wouldn't have over-cooked the prawns. There was little "garlic" and no "chilli" to speak of.

The veges came back and were gross.

We went to pay the bill - $70 - and I spoke with the owner to say, we're quite happy to pay for everything but were a little disappointed with the meal. He got defensive straight away about different people's "taste" and everyone else likes our food. Ok - fine, its just me and my eating partner that's cool so I took out the menu and pointed to the ingredients of the dish and said, "Well its just that the prawns had no garlic or chilli and was not 'sizzling'. His response was the flavours are "watered down" for his restaurant's audience because "chilli" is too strong and the plate is not sizzling because there was a delay getting it to our table (with only one other table in the restaurant and two waiters and the owner you have wonder how they'll cope on a busy night!)

DON'T DO IT!

Yum
Came to Dragon Den for a mates birthday with a group of 12. We were well looked after and had a fantastic time! The banquet offered up a mixture of Vietnamese/Japanese and Chinese inspired dishes and have to give full raps to the soft shell crab which was delicious.

Venue was mainly filled with tables of 2-4 people having a quiet Friday night meal and then there was us. Would like to go back and try the experience as a twosome only - more crab for me...
