Double Shot is located in the building that was previously the Gambit Coffee House. The owners have re-created the feel of the original cafe by selling homemade cakes and slices. The coffee is excellently prepared and they have a large selection of tasty food on offer, including an all-day brunch option.

Good food let down by service faults
Having enjoyed breakfast in Double Shot's vine-covered outdoor seating area in a warmer month, we decided to give it another go on a winter morning ... shouldn't have bothered.
While the food was again good (I had the spanish omelette with chorizo and olives) and the coffee reasonable, it took about 20 min to get to order either from the harried-looking waiter. Drinks arrived 25 min later and breakfast a further half-hour after that (they'd "run out of everything in the kitchen", apparently), leaving us not in the best of moods to appreciate the meal. What had been meant to be brunch was now definitely in lunch territory, and the cramped indoor seating space opposite the post office wasn't the most comfortable atmosphere to be waiting in.
To round off a dissatisfying experience, when a member of our party went to collect a menu to help split the bill - couldn't provide an itemised list or even a total in advance, it seems - the staff member made sure to point to the "10% surcharge on w/ends and pub. holidays" note. Even after adding this 10%, we were charged around $15 more than what we'd calculated, turning what seemed to be a reasonably priced menu into an expensive farce.
Paid and left, and won't be coming back. Shame.

Another Sad Sunday Experience
On yet another witchy quest to find the perfect Sunday brunch this witchy and her partner headed to Double Shot after looking up reviews and deciding it sounded ok.
We arrived to a noisy atmosphere and very uncomfortable chairs. Ok we can deal with that, after all it may be my ample posterior complaining about the seating although said Mr Witchy also found them a tad ...difficult.
We were greeted by a very sweet young man and he promptly took our coffee order, we wanted large coffees please. After a fairly long wait our coffees arrived ... small. When asked if that was the large size we were told no. No offer of making them like we wanted them, and when we queried that we weren't going to be charged for large we were assured we wouldn't be. So after browsing the smallish menu we both got the big brekkie. Settled in with the papers and waited..... and waited....and waited a little more. Now ok it was busy, so we can be a little forgiving there. Unfortunately the atmosphere didn't make us want to sit back and laze away, rather we couldn't really hear each other talk and found it not conducive to whiling away the morning.
Yay - breakfast arrived after it had done a circle trying to find us. What was presented on the plate was a little sad. Standard 2 eggs, a bit of bacon (were they running out?) a little chipolata, half a tom and some mushrooms, oh and a hash brown, well a very tiny hash brown. Under the eggs was 2 pieces of very dry, cold and crunchy bread. No butter? Bugger. I like butter on my toast, doesn't everyone? It's not like the eggs weren't also dry so not even a dribble of yolk was available to cascade down the barren landscape to moisturise the brittle offering.
Well after we managed to swallow said breakfast and not having much coffee to help it down we decided to go. We didn't even feel like ordering another coffee. I am usually a small eater and still felt a bit hungry, I gazed over to the cake display expecting something marvellous as had been talked about in other reviews but there was little there. We walked out $50 bucks lighter and worked out that yes indeed, at that price we must have been charged for large coffees, we couldn't be bothered going back.
So our quest for the perfect Sunday brunch continues. Stay tuned. I am sure we will be victorious one day.
