The Dome Restaurant is one of five separate areas that make up the elaborate pleasure-dome of style that is Sydney's Arthouse Hotel: once heritage-listed School of Arts building, now popular and rowdy drinking hole of the tres chic thanks to a $14m facelift. The art is still there, edgy and contemporary, leaping off its walls and stages. Although it draws a crowd of hip cognescenti, Dome manages to veer away from pretentiousness, due in large part to its reasonable prices. The sophisticated mod-Oz dishes are Italian-influenced and are as striking in their marriage of flavours as, well, a work of art.
