Situated on the cusp of Collingwood and Fitzroy, at the bohemian end of Smith Street, is Doctor Java: a tropical coffee-lover's paradise and one of Melbourne's favourite grinders. Bringing to its customers beautifully blended beans from South America, Australasia and Africa, this doctor knows exactly what's good for you. If you choose a Peruvian bean you'll get a sweet edge; the Papua New Guinea option will deliver well-bred, strong and full-bodied flavours; and the Mexican decaf has been filtered through Swiss water. This one won't promise to keep you awake but be assured it's by no means lacking in the sweet coffee smoothness of all the other blends. A couple of solid options are available as well. Doctor Java can bring you heated organic fruit toast (served with organic yoghurt) and there is a number of deliciously dark chocolates on display as well - two of which include orange peel and chocolate ginger.
