Surprise Packet!
On the outer edge of the Beaufort St crush which has it's silver lining - parking is easy! Very low key street presence and a tiny two level cafe interior. Small tables, any group bigger than a dozen would create a crush..
Service is attentive, friendly and efficient and the food is excellent! Pricing razor sharp, highly recommended!

Good food, pity about the service
Having read the reviews I approached this place with some trepidation.
When I first went in I thought maybe other people had read the review as it was pretty empty, although maybe they had been turned off by the loudish music and staff who have mastered the art of looking completely disinterested.
I was undeterred and politely asked for the music to be turned down, and it was.
I ordered risotto and my friend and I had a glass of wine.
Well, the risotto arrived fairly promptly, as you'd expect given the lack of custom, but it tasted like it had been prepared from scratch. It was really good... really good. It was the second best risotto I have eaten in Perth, the first being at the old Steve's and so unlikely to be replicated.
I had a creme brulee for dessert which was pretty good, but could have been a bit richer in flavour.
All in all the risotto was so good that although the staff looked like they would rather have been somewhere else, I was pretty happy.
I have since been for breakfast a couple of times and been very happy.

A consistent performer
Diva cafe is a common stop before heading to the Astor for my partner and I. We love the funky ambience and the consistent, great value for money food we get here on Saturday nights. The dukkah chicken and gnocci are our favourites from this modern Australian menu. Service may be a little laid back, but we have never found staff to be inattentive. I find this restaurant has a surprising lack of pretense. Highly recommened for a pre Astor meal or catch up with friends.

Av-er-age
Unfortunately we were unable to dine at Cantina 663 due to a power failure so trotted up the road on this stormy night to dine at Diva Cafe. We should have known what was ahead of us when the waiter greated us with a mumbled 'Sit where you like'. We had to ask what the specials of the day were, and after some deliberation we decided on the tasting plate to start which was no better than what we could have made at home for half the price. We then had to ask for water. The mains, which arrived without the tasting plate having been cleared, were bland and uninspiring except for one creamy pasta dish which contained quite a lot of chilli which was not noted on the menu. Except for taking our order and bringing us our food we had no other contact with wait staff even though the restaurant was only a quarter full, we weren't even asked if we'd like desserts or coffees. When they started clearing up around us and left the front door open to send icy gusts of wind through the restaurant, we took our leave.

Good food, not-so-good service
I would have to say that the service is definitely not on par with the food and the atmosphere of the restaurant. We have eaten lunch here numerous times because we enjoy the Beaufort Street view and the tasty baguettes. However, we will not be returning to the restaurant as the service is terrible. Orders are taken late, requests for cutlery are futile and staff are cold, angry and unapproachable. Having a perfectly adequate lunch ruined by restaurant staff is not an enjoyable feeling!

A customer soon to loose???
We have been going to Diva for a Sunday morning breakfast-cum-brunch for close to two years. We have never been weekly diners, but it would be fair to say that we are there at least once every five weeks. We would attend for a regular selection of eggs Benedict, pancakes, fruit salad, or whatever else would take our fancy. It was a great place where we could take the kids and chill knowing that they were looked after. However, each time that we have attended over the last few months, things have been getting worse and worse. At first it was just the service. We would only have to ask for things three times as opposed to just once. Now we seem to have to ask for things five times (otherwise we would just miss out). Being served the mere basics, like plates and cutlery now seems to be a wish as opposed to an expected. We have put up with bad service for so long, as we really did enjoy the food that was on offer. However, now we find ourselves asking where else can we go in the area (as this is where we live) for a great, enjoyable Sunday morning brunch.
