Discobeans

Fittingly opening in the space of the old Kerala Art Gallery, Discobeans incorporates a gallery, performance space and Japanese vegan cafe. Admittedly, the full feature wall mural of Japanese magazines gives the overall effect of looking like a technicolour yawn motif, but that is the exact eccentricity that gives Discobeans its appeal. While the rest of the world is gripped by image-conscious paralysis, Discobeans is just doing its thing.

The same goes for the menu. It's mostly Japanese vegan and a lot of gluten-free stuff - but it's not going to get all preachy if you want some meat. There are a few tasty fish dishes on the menu that are just as likely to convert some vegos as to placate some carnivores. Aside from that, the udon noodles are a solid choice or the strawberry frozen ice pie may just prove too tempting, out of curiosity as much as taste.
