The Different Drummer is a Glebe institution, known for its consistent food, late licence and quirky atmosphere. Above the front door, an original Bonds mannequin - dressed up like a Rastafarian Michael Jackson - looks down on the carefree punters, while a disco ball shares ceiling space with a model train. Up a spiral staircase, the dining room is slightly more sedate, but the offbeat personality of the venue still shines through. A bemused-looking bull illustrates the menu as a nod to the Spanish origins of the dishes, which include an extensive range of tapas as well as a selection of main courses. Chef Thom Sharma is almost as much of a fixture as the model train, having been at The Drummer for 10 years - and 10 years of practice at making sizzling garlic prawns results in one seriously tasty dish.
