This trendy little hole-in-the-wall marks more than a decade of hard work for owner Stephen Dyer, and Darlinghurst residents should be breathing a collective sigh of relief he chose their backyard.
In what was once the dead zone between Kings Cross' infamous nightclub strip and the red light district, Detour brings something that nothing else has thus far been able to: soul. The bright green interior brings a shock to the senses at the same time the aroma of freshly-ground coffee greets you. Ambient music slowly filters through to bring your other senses up to speed.
The menu here is short and to the point; simple fare (brekkies, rolls, paninis, salads and winter soups) done very well. The coffee is what takes centre stage here, and few who have tried it are complaining.
