Queensland isn't the state you'd normally associate with Swiss food. It's been claimed that, to truly appreciate hot, gooey cheese fondue and delicious rosti potatoes, you need to be wrapped up in a pashmina and braving the chilly winter of Victoria or Tasmania. But Des Alpes, a Mitchelton favourite for over a decade, has shown that even sun-loving Queenslanders can't go past hearty Alpine delicacies. The menu features a myriad of fondue, a wide selection of gluten-free dishes, and glorious French Swiss-style desserts.

Loved it!
Had dinner here with a group of about 10 friends, all with various (& somewhat fussy) palates! Everyone loved it. Staff were friendly and really knew their stuff, service was super fast. Those who had the fondue party had a great time indulging in some interactive dining. It was delicious, from the cheese to the meat to the chocolate. We could not get over what great value it was. And such a cosy and homely kind of atmosphere. Was perfect for a cold winters night out!

Lovely fondues
This is a great suburban family-run restaurant, specializing in the culinary repertoire of Switzerland. It could be of French, Italian or German in origin, or an entirely original Swiss recipe. Either way, their fondues are their signature dishes, and rightfully so. Especially since it will be getting colder in Queensland for the next few months, this is the sort of hearty fare you would want to indulge on a cold, windy night.
While the cheese fondues are always available, make sure you pre-order their meat or chocolate fondues in advance. As for the mains, the seafood crepe and that Zurich specialty, veal in mushroom sauce, were well-executed, and while they will not win awards for culinary innovation or mind-blowingly good, the portions are generous and definitely value for money.
