Reflecting all the laidback charm of its beachside location, Deep Blue Bistro does fine dining in casual Coogee style. Diners spill out onto the pavement, soaking up the sea breezes, while the interior is decorated in shades of blue and ochre, alluding to Australia's red earth as much as to the seaside address. While Carr Street in Coogee is about as far from outback Australia as one can get, this bistro brings a bit of the bush oceanside with a menu packed with native goodies.
The breakfast menu hints at this preoccupation, with dishes ranging beyond the usual eggs and bacon to lemon aspen ricotta hotcakes served with berry compote and ironwood syrup. The dinner menu takes it further with dishes such as the signature tasting plate of kangaroo tartare, chargrilled kangaroo loin and braised kangaroo ravioli. On Sundays, diners can indulge in an outback degustation dinner: an Aussie-centric journey from North Queensland crocodile carpaccio to Murray River yabbies on a lemon myrtle risotto cake - all served with homegrown wines, of course.

Treasure!
My friend organised a catch up for a quick drink at this gorgeous restaurant. We were only having a cocktail - elderflower pear martini which was simply divine - but ended up staying on for a few more plus oysters and salt and pepper calamari, which is the best I have had in Sydney! I am so glad to have found this place, it rocks.

Happy traveller
I've had snails in Paris, alligator in Miami, snake in Indonesia, bee in Borneo, hagis in Scotland, a fry up in London, Lasi in India and now I have had crocodile and emu at Deep Blue Bistro - Australia.
This was definitely my finest native dining experience yet! One to brag to my friends about!

Loved it
Recently discovered this place and have nothing but good to say. The food was divine, we ate lots of seafood, the best salt and pepper calamari we have ever had!! Oysters, yum and Kingfish sashimi, to die for and char grilled octopus, heaven! Great atmosphere, loads of candles everywhere and staff super friendly. I can't wait to go back!
