At the top of a marble staircase, away the rest of Perth's classic hotel, Raffles, you'll find this fine diner which, as the name suggests, has thankfully retained its art deco roots. Seasonal, brasserie-style food is partnered with incredible views in an atmosphere that oozes calm sophistication, and you'll see why this is one of Perth's top picks.

The cost did not match the food.
Everything was a 10 / 10 , but mains were under cooked. Disappointing. All round lucky to get a 7 out of 10.

Split sittings don't work
Previously dined mid week and enjoyed the food. Booked Saturday night for 8:30pm sitting (has two sittings on Saturday apparently. Arrived on time but were advised to wait at the bar as the restaurant was full and our table wasn't ready. We were one of four parties waiting at the bar. When querying the wait, hostess said "we can't just ask 6:30 diners to leave". At 9:10pm we were offered a hastily inserted table in the middle of the room. Given the number of people still waiting to be seated, we accepted the table, ordered a bottle of wine and food. By 9:40 we had been served both entrees and mains while drinking our first glass of wine and were then asked if we wanted dessert. We advised the waiter we had been unable to finish the mains as they were served within two minutes of the entrees being removed so dessert was not really an option. We then asked for the bill, still with half a bottle of wine to drink, and politely complained of the initial wait and rushed food and were offered a free drink. Only in Perth.

Price should equal quality/presentation
The restaurant is very well presented, very stylish, and definitely a good place to impress for a first date. Staff were very friendly with warm smiles from every member, and were clear in their delivery. The meals were served in good time, and i never felt too full, nor too hungry.
Presentation of the food could have been better for the price you pay. The presentation seemed dull, and didn't excite me enough. The meal itself was very well cooked, with the chef's experience showing through. I had the Pink snapper and my wife had the beef fillet.
The beef fillet was cooked superbly, medium rare and very tender, yet held together. The gravy was very tasty and could tell that it was made, not opened up from a can.
The pink snapper was also well cooked, with the flesh holding together well and very fresh. Flavour of the gravy brought out the taste of the fish and it was a very enjoyable meal.
Although the food was great, i feel that presentation is very important as it does make an impact on the palate, and that is the only thing lacking.
If you are looking for a good place to dine and make an impression, make no mistake, this would be the place to do it. However, be prepared to bring about $100 each if you are thinking of an entree, a few good bottles of wine, mains and dessert.

Could do better
This decor of this retaurant is truly beautiful; stunning art deco style all bathed in a soft golden light. Great views of the river with a large balcony. Well laid out seating which was private but still with a sense of space. Well presented tables and classy table settings - glassware etc, but let down by no tablecloths. In a restaurant of this standard this lets the presentation down and looks sloppy.
Wait staff were pleasant. Had a sense that staff lacked expertise; only 1 starter came out, and as the wait person didn't return to the table to check response to that course we had to ask another person to check on the second meal.
The wine list I found parochial and disappointing, although reasonably priced for a licenced restaurant, and excellent prices if you become a member. The red we ordered - St Hugo - was on the menu as 2002, and came out as 2003, with no comment or explanations.
Good menu choice of modern Australian food, although some strange combinations - not sure why prawn risotto would have the addition of aged vintage cheddar? Cheese with seafood is questionable at the best of times, but surely something a little more subtle?
I had the pasta with blue manna crab which was beautifully presented, with delicate flavours of parsley crab lemon and subtle chilli overwhelmed at times with what tasted like shavings of... vintage cheddar... again? Partner had the duck which he found pleasant enough but unremarkable. Ordered citron crepes for dessert ($18). Again, unremarkable, and a bit stodgy.
What started as a wow experience - the decor and ambience, quickly turned into a hmmmm experience. The meals are priced highly for the delivery, presentation and quality.
In a town where restaurants at the top end are benchmarked against the likes of Star Anise, Jacksons, and Lamonts, who deliver silver service (or certainly close to), knowledgeable staff, and superb food, this restaurant has a long way to go if it wants to sustain their current level of menu pricing.

Sydneysiders in Perth!
On a recent dining experience at the Deco restaurant in Applecross I must say I was very impressed with the level of cuisine and it lived up to anything I'd eaten anywhere in Australia! We started with an excellent and very tasty seafood chowder and delicious squid ink risotto with scallops which was lovely! Then for mains we hit the meats. My husband had a veal chop that was huge and perfectly cooked medium rare with porcini mushrooms and I opted for the lamb rack which was again perfectly cooked and served with couscous and grilled asparagus - very talented cooking! The service was prompt and very friendly and the ambience just right for a relaxing Monday night! We will return!

Good, but I wouldnt go back!
We decided to try something different and check out Deco at the Raffles. They seem to have a problem with taking reservations. We booked for 7pm for a group of 6 on a Friday night. When we arrived, we were told there aren't any tables ready yet. Now the restaurant was about half full, when queried they said the tables hadn't been made yet. They said we should go to the bar for a few drinks. We got a table at about 7.40. When we sat down a waiter approached us about 30 minutes later.
Food was good - very tasty. But then the bill came, whats with the surcharge on a Friday night?

Long weekend
We popped down to the Raffles Sunday of the long weekend and it was fantastic! Wasn't over crowded, the service was great, the meals came out quickly and the food was beautiful! Highly recommend the salmon pizza! Last two reviews didn't do it much justice, but we found it great. Great location too.

Tasty food, but disappointing first time
This is a lovely restaurant. Unfortunately it got off to a bad start. We arrived for our 8.30pm reservation and were asked to sit at the small bar while our table was being made ready for us. 50 minutes later, and two complaints on our part, they bring us some tapas to keep us from fainting from starvation... still no table. Finally at 9.35pm, we are seated. Pathetic! If it weren't for the alcohol keeping us all in a light, good mood, we would have walked well before. The restaurant itself was lovely. Beautiful surrounds, however very noisy with all the people speaking at the top of their lungs. The waiters were milling around, here there and everywhere. The menu is expensive however the food was great. Not sure if the 10% surcharge was just a joke as it was Friday the 13th, but it should be! Just ridiculous with prices already so high. They also have a great wine list. The waiter we had was lovely, however he brought the wrong order to our table twice. The only complaint from my table of 8 people was that one person had their meal overcooked. Not bad odds, I suppose, for a meal that came 1.25 hours late! I will go back again, give it a second chance, however will have to wait til I can work and extra shift one week to afford it.

Take out a second Mortgage
I would agree with Christopher in his description of the restaurant, however an otherwise pleasant dining experience was marred by a Saturday Night 10% surcharge on the already inflated prices. Who ever heard of such a thing? I rather suspect that when people become wise to this, they will swiftly lose custom.
