If there was any doubt left, then this new eatery unequivocally proves that serial hospo entrepreneurs Sal Malatesta and Ben Cooper have the Midas touch. Starting with coffee couture before moving onto contemporary cuisine, the owners of the ever-popular St Ali cafe have now turned their hand to traditional Japanese fare.
Like most of its stablemates, Deba Sushi is the ideal venue for its locale. It's set strategically away from the hustle and bustle of Swanston Street while still managing to be conveniently central and aims right in the middle of the market, somewhere between high-end premium and spendthrift 'do I really want to eat seafood this cheap?'.
On the menu, you'll find a list as classic as the decor is modern. Expect to see quality seafood in the hands of someone who knows how to use it to its full advantage.
