Melbourne prides itself on many things, and North Fitzroy is one of the most notable suburbs for bold, ballsy eats at unbelievably affordable prices. Danny's Take-Away is legendary and hard to miss, smugly neon-lit on a street corner, with hipsters cramming luscious, juicy burgers into their mouths at the diner-style bar.
Established in 1955, Danny's serves only old-school, messy burgers that are lovingly bulging with beef. In a nod to modish table manners, they'll cut your burger in two - but, given they are open until 2am, propriety flies away with the night owl after a certain wanton hour. The chips at Danny's made the Age's top 10 list when they ran a feature on the best chips in Melbourne several years back, and any Melburnite worth his or her chicken salt will tell you that Danny's is an incredible institution.
